Did you know we offer a great-value and professional interior design service to our customers across Essex and further afield? If you’re looking to give a room (or even your entire home!) a complete makeover and would like an expert eye to guide you, our resident Interior Designer, Jacqui, is bursting with creativity, ideas and inside knowledge of our product ranges.

Let’s take a look behind the scenes of one of Jacqui’s most recent interior design projects:

The brief

Our client was a developer who needed a show flat to wow potential buyers of their new-build flats on the outskirts of London. They were keen to make the most of the space to give the flat a light and airy feel that worked with the modern aesthetic of the building, and were completely open to Jacqui’s ideas about colour and styling – music to any interior designer’s ears!

Jacqui’s approach

Jacqui wanted to create a cohesive flow through the flat to make sure the rooms complemented each other, while still having subtle differences in style and character. To achieve this, Jacqui opted for a neutral colour palette, with different tones of green providing rich accents throughout. It’s a palette that has broad appeal – an important consideration for a show flat – and strikes the right balance of being timeless yet contemporary.

Green was also a perfect choice for the urban location of this flat, which doesn’t have a great deal of green space around it. Choosing shades of this natural, soothing colour has the effect of bringing nature in, and Jacqui enhanced this vibe by adding pops of nature-inspired wallpaper from Graham & Brown.

The living room

Jacqui’s aim in the living room was to create a comfortable, cosy space that’s clearly zoned from the adjoining dining area but feels as spacious as possible. She selected small-scale furniture from our Parkgate range, which brings clean lines and Scandi-esque styling to the room while providing all the functionality a living room needs.

The sofa and armchair are part of our Create Your Own sofa collection, which gave Jacqui a host of options to choose from. The Argyll sofa in sumptuous forest-green velvet takes centre stage, and a coordinating armchair in grey fabric creates an impactful juxtaposition of colour and texture. Scatter cushions in burnt orange tie the seating together while adding a flash of contrast, and Aztec-inspired cushions in cream and grey provide pops of pattern that complement the silver-diamond rug beautifully.

Graham & Brown’s ‘Midsummer Fern Lush’ wallpaper makes a real feature of the largest wall in this room, with large-scale fern illustrations appearing in rich greens against a matte-white background. Potted plants and botanical art prints complete the room, enhancing the ‘outside in’ feeling.

The single bedroom

In the single bedroom Jacqui designed a scheme that will appeal to a wide age range of children, but also allows potential buyers to see how the space might work as a guest room.

The neutral and green colour palette was carried through into this room, while framed artwork of exotic animals combines with Graham & Brown’s ‘Tropique Zoo Canvas’ wallpaper to bring an on-trend jungle theme to the room. This show-stopping wallpaper showcases beautiful illustrations printed in a tone-on-tone effect onto luxurious paper with a subtle shimmer that really elevates the neutral palette.

The master bedroom

Jacqui wanted the master bedroom to feel like a subtle change of pace, providing sanctuary and calm away from the main living areas. The colour palette still provides synergy with the rest of the flat, but it leans more towards the cool grey tones with accents of a softer green.

The bed, bedside table and chest of drawers are from our Roxburgh range and have a clean, fuss free silhouette and a warm oak finish. Crossed-frame lamps make a modern statement at either side of the bed and deliver a flash of polished chrome against Graham & Brown’s ‘Wildflower Shadow’ wallpaper, which features a floral pattern in a silhouette effect for an understated nod to nature.
